GIVE US THE BACKGROUND - WHEN AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO OPEN A RECORD SHOP?
Nick and I had wanted to open a record shop for several years but knew we wanted to wait until we moved to Cornwall to take the jump.
Nick was very poorly when we moved down here and, in 2023, had to have a triple heart bypass. He made an amazing recovery, and it made us both realise that life is too short. We needed to make our dream a reality, so we opened our shop in November 2025.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR STORE? WHAT'S THE VIBE?
We knew we wanted to specialise in rock, metal, punk and thrash, as that is what we love and know so well. It has an “old school” record store vibe, with huge A Frame black wooden beams, old tour posters, t-shirts and memorabilia on the walls. There’s lots of bright neon lights to give it some vibrance, and it really pops!
CAN YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD YOU SOLD IN THE SHOP? AND THE LAST?
First – Black Sabbath – Volume 4 (it was the very first purchase on Day One!)
Last - Slayer – Hell Awaits (40th Anniversary Special Edition)
DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD SHOP YOU WENT TO? AND DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT?
Ana - Mine was Scorpion Records in High Wycombe, back in the early 00s. I used to go in every weekend with my friends or my Dad and look at all the records, CDs and merchandise. The first record I physically bought would have been KISS Monster in 2012. As a millennial, I used to buy CDs and my Dad would have the vast collection.
Nick – The first record shop I visited was in Melbourne, Australia, back in the 1970s called Brashs. The first record I bought with my own money was Adam and The Ants – Ant Rap
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RECORD SHOP (APART FROM YOUR OWN!) AND WHY?
Reddington’s Rare Records in Birmingham. The amount of records they had was incredible; the rock and metal was always up a few flights of stairs, but worth the effort. The owner was always so personable and knew exactly what we were after!
WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE RECORD STORE EXPERIENCE?
We love to travel the world and always make a point of crate digging at every record shop we can find. The most memorable was walking into a shop in Fort Worth, Texas, to be met by the owner, who was none other than a member of Armoured Saint! He had so much cool old skool rock and metal memorabilia. We had a great experience there!
HOW SUCCESSFUL HAS RECORD STORE DAY BEEN FOR YOUR STORE?
It was a great day, with queues from Midnight the night before; which for our first ever RSD was mind blowing. From being a customer last year on RSD, to have people queuing at OUR own record shop this year blew us away!
The support from the local community and beyond has been fantastic.
WHAT'S THE BEST GIG YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO?
Ana – Rammstein 2002 – I was a young teenager and had never experienced anything like it in my life! Everyone needs to see Rammstein live at least once!
Nick – Clash of the Titans 1990 – Megadeth, Slayer, Testament & Suicidal Tendencies – what a brutal line up!
